# Languages and countries

> How Jobbaloo chooses a document language, hides a posting that asks for a language you do not work in, and applies your rules per client country.

Source: https://jobbaloo.io/docs/languages-and-countries/

Language is a setting on your profile and a fact read from the posting. Jobbaloo does not machine-translate a letter.

## What a search shows

A posting that asks for a language outside your working languages is not shown. Check those languages on the profile when a search looks empty. See [Troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting/).

A posting only written in Dutch that never asks for Dutch is kept and tagged "posting in Dutch".

## Which language the documents use

| Posting | Documents |
|---|---|
| German | A German CV and letter, built from your own German lines |
| Dutch | English documents, plus one controlled line saying that you write in English |
| You ask `tailor draft` for `lang` | `en`, `de` or `nl`. Ask for the letter in that language first |

Dutch is written only for a profile that lists Dutch above basic. Lines you have not translated stay in the base language, and the page says how many are still missing. The application e-mail is drafted in the CV's language.

> [!NOTE]
> A letter is never machine-translated. For a German letter, Jobbaloo uses your German lines, or you or your AI write it. The [truth check](/docs/truth-check/) still applies.

## Rules per country

A rule says what goes on the CV for a client in a country. Set only what is true for you. The parts are on [Master profile](/docs/master-profile/):

- **Location**: the city you list, for example a Dutch city for Dutch clients and a German city for German ones.
- **Registration**: how you describe your status, for example "ZZP, KvK-registered" in the Netherlands or "Freelancer" in Germany.
- **Document language**: German postings get German documents from your German lines; Dutch postings get English documents.

## Dates on the page

Dates follow the document language. English uses "Jan – Mar 2025". German uses "01/2025 – 03/2025". The spaces in a range do not break across lines. See [Designs and exports](/docs/designs-and-exports/).
